Do you have a pain in your neck? If you do, you’re not alone, but living with neck pain can greatly affect your quality of life. From driving to eating, almost everything you do involves turning your head or bending your neck. Chronic neck pain can often be a symptom of osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative arthritis. When this type of arthritis is found in the neck (or the cervical spine), it is called degenerative joint disease (DJD) because the stress of aging, or other activities, has caused the joints of the spine to wear down. It is true that the risk of osteoarthritis increases with age, but while we can’t turn back the hands of time, we can develop habits and alter our lifestyles to protect our spine. The amount of stress that you place on your spine will determine its health, so making healthy lifestyle choices can help you prevent DJD of your cervical spine.

While examining and reading about it, you may think to yourself that all bones are dead and extinct, just like the dinosaur itself. Although the bones in museums may be dry, hard, or crumbly, the bones in the human body are different. The 206 bones that make up our skeletons are very much alive, growing, and changing all the time.
